Fleet Modernization
Enhance Performance With Remanufacturing and Recapitalization.
Starting with snowplows for the U.S. Air Force in 1960, Oshkosh Defense has been remanufacturing military vehicles for more than 50 years. This service has continuously grown since then, providing a cost-effective way to modernize entire fleets. In fact, in the past 15 years we’ve modernized nearly 10,000 Family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles (FHTV) trucks for the U.S. Army, and refurbished nearly 2,000 additional heavy vehicles in theater.
In 2010, our Theater Provided Equipment Refurbishment (TPER) program delivered more than 760 MRAP - All Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) kits and 2,000 of our patented TAK-4® independent suspension system upgrade kits to enhance the performance of multiple MRAP variants. As part of the TPER program, Oshkosh developed an electronic Inspection and Maintenance Authorization Document (IMAD) – an automated method for performing inspections in the field. This electronic IMAD solution reduces the average time for completing a typical heavy tactical vehicle inspection by more than 50% - from 38 hours to less than 17 hours. In virtually any environment, Oshkosh can modernize core military assets to the latest configuration within 100 days, or less.
- Fleet recapitalization is typically 25 percent less than the cost of a new vehicle
- A 20-year-old vehicle can be upgraded with latest equipment in 100 days
- Fleet modernization services can include minor enhancements such as brighter headlights, new seats and improved seat belts, and more sophisticated enhancements such as new suspension systems, anti-lock brakes and advanced armor protection
